Talent4Health is seeking a travel nurse RN Hematology / Oncology for a travel nursing job in Jackson, Mississippi.

Shift Notes

12 hr days 

📍 Unit Overview: 5 South Hematology Oncology (Med-Surg)

• Location: UMMC
• Unit Type: Hematology/Oncology Med-Surg
• Beds: 32
• Certifications Required:
  • BLS (required)
  • ACLS (for charge RNs)
  • ONC Certification: Not required, but oncology/chemo experience preferred
  • EPIC Charting Proficiency: Required

🧑‍⚕️ Patient Population & Acuity

• Common Diagnoses: Hematology/Oncology, chemotherapy patients
• RN:Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5 , can go up to 1:6 ; adjusted for acuity
• Experience Required:
  • Level 1 trauma experience
  • Experience in large, high-acuity facilities
  • Comfortable with chest tubes, central lines
  • Chemo/hem-onc experience preferred
• Drips:
  • Titration: Heparin (required), possible Amiodarone (initiated, then transferred)
  • Cardiac drips managed primarily on 3 South
• Telemetry:
  • All units are tele-capable
  • Central monitoring station alerts RNs
  • RNs are not expected to read their own strips

👨‍⚕️ Support & Leadership

• Charge Nurse: On shift, takes light or full patient load as needed
• Manager/Educator: In-house M–F (business hours), shared across smaller units
• House Supervisor: On duty after 3 p.m. weekdays and all weekend
• CNA/Nurse Aide Support: Present on all units

🫁 Equipment & RT Support

• Common RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (primarily night use), High Flow (on 2N)
• Vent Patients: Not typically on this unit
• RT Support Available: Yes

📆 Scheduling & Shifts

• Shifts: 12 hours (7a–7p or 7p–7a)
• Self-Scheduling: Allowed within reason
• Block Scheduling: Possible if needs align
• Weekend Requirement:
  • Every other weekend or 2 weekends/month standard
  • May increase to meet unit needs
• Holiday Requirement: Rotated with staff
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating:
  • Expected between all med-surg units
  • Assignments based on skillset
  • Higher acuity assignments go to core staff

🎓 Orientation

• Day 1: Paperwork, logins, unit tour
• Orientation: 2 additional shifts with preceptor

🧪 Compliance Requirements

• EPIC Proficiency: Required
• Flu Vaccine: Mandatory
  • Deadline: Nov 15
  • Exemptions: Medical only, requires documentation of prior severe reaction
• Fingerprinting:
  • Remote: Allow 10 days
  • In-person: Available at Jackson or Grenada campus week before start
