Overview Bakery Operations Specialist role at Safeway. This position is based in Honolulu, HI and supports Bakery operations for multiple stores in Hawaii. Albertsons-Safeway's Northern California Division is seeking a candidate to monitor, enforce, and support the execution of the division merchandising plan for the department in assigned stores. Responsibilities Travel to assigned stores to work with the Department Manager and staff to communicate merchandising plans for departments to meet sales, gross, and labor targets Counsel department managers and Store Directors in all aspects of product merchandising and customer service Visit stores to evaluate overall department presentation, cleanliness, and compliance with company policy and procedures Develop and maintain training programs to ensure qualified associates fill respective department positions Participate in departmental and divisional sales meetings Oversee departmental sales, labor, and gross profit reporting from assigned stores Implement new merchandising programs and strategies and ensure department staff are properly trained Monitor competitor activities Assist in opening new and remodeled stores Provide merchandising input to Division Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Manager Measure store-level performance through department sales, gross profit, and labor percent Execute plans measured through store visits, results reviews, and observations of store department conditions Assess the effectiveness of training programs through evaluations Qualifications Education Level: Bachelor's degree in business or related field and/or previous experience in merchandising of the assigned product area and retail sales experience preferred Skills and Experiences Previous Department Manager and Store Director experience Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective with a wide variety of people in person and over the phone Marketing orientation with analytical and problem-solving abilities Proficiency in mathematics for straightforward analysis Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate others without direct supervision Ability to provide work guidance to store associates on product knowledge, sales and marketing techniques, and understanding of profit and loss and company policies Trains department managers on business basics and department management Provides input to Store Director on Store Department Manager evaluation Travel Requirements: Position may require up to 75% travel, including occasional weekend travel Physical Environment Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment Sitting for long periods at a desk or computer terminal Use of calculators, keyboards, telephones, and office equipment Store visits involve standing, walking, climbing stairs, and movement around machinery and hazardous equipment, as well as backstage receiving and production areas Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required Fast-paced and may be stressful Benefits Competitive wages paid weekly Associate discounts Health and financial well-being benefits for eligible associates (Medical, Dental, 401k and more) Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave (eligibility requirements apply) Leaders invested in your training, career growth, and development Inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues Our Values We put people first.
